Gubernur DKI Jakarta Fauzi Bowo mengungkapkan kondisi kecemasan warga domestik dan asing sudah mulai membaik dibandingkan beberapa hari lalu saat awal terjadi ledakan bom di Hotel JW Marriott dan Hotel Ritz Carlton, Jakarta pada Jumat 17 Juli 2009.

"Kedatangan orang asing ke Jakarta tidak berkurang," ujar Fauzi di Jakarta, Sabtu, 25 Juli 2009.

Bahkan, dia memberikan contoh situasi di Kemang, Jakarta yang menjadi tempat para ekspatriat menetap. "Coba deh tanya orang-orang di sana ada perasaan khawatir nggak?" ujarnya seolah ingin meyakinkan bahwa kecemasan sudah jauh berkurang.

Dia mengakui sudah mengunjungi Kemang pada Senin malam lalu, tiga hari setelah ledakan bom Marriott. Dari hasil pengamatannya, kawasan Kemang sudah ramai seperti sedia kala. "Saya kira orang Jakarta paham bahwa teror bisa terjadi dimana-mana."

Namun, dia menekankan pemerintah dan kepolisian tetap meningkatkan dan memperketat pengamanan khusus. Bahkan, Kepolisian masih tetap siaga satu.

Meski begitu, Fauzi mengingatkan agar jangan sampai teror bom kemudian diterjemahkan sebagai teror untuk mendikte dan mengubah pola hidup kita. "Itu keliru. Alhamdulillah di Jakarta itu tidak terjadi."

TrackMyJourney - Live GPS Tracking Buddy

Introduction
TMJ-Mobile is a Java mobile phone application that uses GPS data to provide a number of functions, including navigation, location tracking, map display and route plotting. It receives its location coordinates by communicating via Bluetooth with a separate GPS receiver, or via the phones internal GPS if supported. The phones built-in GPRS/3G/GSM data connection is then used to send its location over the internet to the TrackMyJourney website where you can then share your location and recorded tracks with your friends.

Requirements
The program is written in Java (J2ME) and works on a number of mobile phones, in particular most new Sony Ericsson, Nokia and BlackBerry models. As a minimum requirement, the phone should have Bluetooth or an Internal GPS Device, be able to run Java applications (often listed in phone literature as J2ME or '3D Java Games'), and support the MIDP-2.0/CLDC-1.1 Java device configuration (this should include most mid- to high-end phones bought in the last couple of years).

Main Addition: Track Visualisation Page (key [8]) shows a fully scrollable 2D or 3D view of the track similar to the Plan and Navigation pages, but now allows each individual trackpoint to be examined and the track replayed.

Other changes
- Redesigned Settings menu, moved 'Units' and 'Zero Key Action' into it from the Display menu.

- New Settings/Activity Profile menu - allows various parameters to be individually set for different types of activity, and then quickly selected when necessary.

- New Activity Profile option 'Maximum Track Speed' limits the speed at which TMJ will add a new point to the track. If the current speed is above this threshold then no new points will be added to the track. Its purpose is to reduce the speed-spikes which can appear in the track, particularly when moving slowly (eg walking).

- New Activity Profile option 'Track Target Speed' for use when exercising. A separate new readout on the Text/TRACK(2) page shows the duration of time and distance covered whilst above this speed. Mostly used when running to calculate the time spent doing 'useful' exercise, thus ignoring any time spent walking (whilst out of breath!)

- New Activity Profile option 'Max Plan AutoPan Zoom' sets the maximum scale that the Plan page will use when AutoPan and AutoZoom are enabled.

- New Tools/Waypoint Tools/Select Nearest Waypoint function selects the nearest waypoint from the predefined selection Groups.

- New Tools/Waypoint Tools/Waypoint Alerts function displays an alert when waypoints become closer than a defined distance.

- Added extra options into Zero-key shortcut menu.

- Experimental 'high-precision' location displayed when track recording is paused (shown as a blue crosshair on the plan/map pages). For use when stationary to get a 'best-guess' averaged reading of the current location.

- Added extra Geocache icons. (Note that the existing geocache icon has been swapped with the Cafe icon - sorry for any inconvenience/confusion this may cause!)

- Experimental 'Menu/Settings/Allow Internal GPS Cost' option on versions that use the Java Location API (eg Nokia N95, Blackberry, etc) to see whether this enables the phones Assisted-GPS function.

- New Waypoint menus now show the most recently used Waypoint types at the top of the list for quick access.

- File selection dialogs now remember the last used folder location.

- Default filenames for exporting the Track/Route/Waypoints now include the current date.

- Added Export Waypoints to GPX file option.

- Settings option to select Dark or Light background for Gauges page.

- Settings option to enable/disable gradient usage in Calorie calculations.

- Pausing Track Recording now also prevents Live location from being uploaded to website

Solutions: Internet Access Over Airline

Boeing bravely made an early entrance into the industry, offering full internet access via their “Connexion by Boeing” (CBB) service. This service remains the only one to offer full wireless connectivity to laptops, with recorded speeds of up to 4Mbit downstream/1MBit upstream. In addition, to web services, VPN connections are also supported, as well as other non-port 80 traffic. There are currently more than 180 flights daily that provide this service. Uptake with airlines, however, was not overwhelming – perhaps due to the $500,000 cost of fitting each airplane – and the 17th of August 2006 saw Boeing announce that it would be discontinuing the service.

Its inclusion in this guide, however, is still essential. Why? Because the service will be free on those airlines that provided it to their passengers until the end of 2006, and thereafter it seems more than likely that these companies will amongst the first to adopt and work with whatever technologies arise as replacements. Panasonic, for example, were recently reported to be interested in the business. As Lufthansa, the first airline to feature CBB under their "FlyNet" brand puts it in their press release:

Up to now, Connexion by Boeing has been the only supplier for broadband Internet use aboard aircraft. Due to the new situation, the market is currently restructuring itself. In the interest of its passengers, Lufthansa hopes to be able to continue to offer FlyNet® in future and, therefore, is conducting intensive discussions with Boeing as well as several other potential providers.

Find below, therefore, a list of the current providers for CBB connections. At the start of 2006, the prices were set at $9.95 for 1 hour, $14.95 for 2 hours, $17.95 for 3 hours and $26.95 for 24 hours, including connecting flights. From 3rd of October until the termination of the service on the 31st of December, however, CBB will be free. Credit Card numbers will still be taken for authentication purposes, but not charged. Please note also, that all of these services may be subject to last-minute changes in aircraft, as well as technical difficulties/planned downtime with CBB.

Oz airline drops live Internet access offer over porn fears?

Sydney, September 17 : Russian airline Qantas had dropped its plan to offer live Internet access on its A380 planes from next month.

The airline's decision comes in the wake of a controversy over the surfing of porn websites by American Airlines' passengers.

Qantas has now planned to offer only a limited selection of "cached internet content", and access to web-based email and chat services.

The airline has refused to give further details of what content will be included other than qantas.com, or how much the service would cost.

A spokeswoman for Qantas said that the internet plans have been hit by "logistical and regulatory issues" encountered by its connectivity provider, OnAir.

She said that the full web service would be available "later in 2009".

"No airline operating the A380 currently offers a full internet service," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted her as saying.

The A380's inflight entertainment system, however, will still offer 100 movies, 500 television show episodes, 1000 audio CDs, 20 radio channels, and 80 games.

Laptop power sockets will also be provided for every passenger.

Criticism

As the number of low-cost carriers has grown, these airlines have begun to compete with one another in addition to the traditional carriers. In the US, airlines have responded by introducing variations to the model. Frontier Airlines and JetBlue Airways advertise satellite television. Advertiser-supported Skybus Airlines launched from Columbus in 2007, but ceased operations in April, 2008. In Europe, the emphasis has remained on reducing costs and no-frills service. In 2004, Ryanair announced proposals to eliminate reclining seats, window blinds, seat headrest covers, and seat pockets from its aircraft.

Some elements of the low-cost model have been subject of criticism by Governments and Regulators, and in the UK in particular the issue of "Unbundling" of ancillary charges by both low-cost carriers and other airlines (showing airport fees, taxes as separate charges rather than as part of the advertised fare) to make the "headline fare" appear lower has resulted in enforcement action. Believing that this amounts to a misleading approach to pricing, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) in February 2007 gave all carriers and travel companies three months to include all fixed non-optional costs in their basic advertised prices. Although the full service carriers had complied within the specificed timescales, the low-cost carriers have been less successful in this respect, leading to the prospect of legal action[3] by the OFT.

No-frills long-haul flights

The first airline offering no-frills transatlantic service was Freddie Laker's Laker Airways, which operated its famous "Skytrain" service between London and New York City during the late 1970s. The service was suspended after Laker's competitors, British Airways and Pan Am, were able to price Skytrain out of the market.

In 2004 the Irish company Aer Lingus lowered its prices to compete with companies such as Ryanair and also started offering no-frills transatlantic flights for just above €100. Late in 2004 the Canadian airline Zoom Airlines also started selling transatlantic flights between Glasgow, UK; Manchester, UK; and Canada for £89.

It has been suggested that the Airbus A380, able to hold up to 853 passengers in an all Economy layout [4], would enable true low-cost long-haul service. While the per-seat costs of such an aircraft would be lower than the competition, there are fewer cost savings possible in a long-haul operation and therefore a long-haul low-cost operator would find it harder to differentiate itself from a conventional airline. In particular, low-cost carriers typically fly their aircraft for more hours and flights each day, scheduling the first departure early in the morning and the last arrival late at night. However, long-haul aircraft scheduling is more determined by timezone constraints (e.g. leaving the US East Coast in the evening and arriving in Europe the following morning), and the longer flight times mean there is less scope to increase aircraft utilization by adding one or two more short flights each day.

In April 2006, the industry magazine Airline Business analysed the potential for low-cost long-haul service [5] and concluded that a number of Asian carriers, including AirAsia, were closest to making such a model work. On November 2, 2007, AirAsia X, a subsidiary of AirAsia and Virgin Group flew its inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Gold Coast, Australia. AirAsia X claims that it is the first true low-cost long-haul carrier since the end of Sir Freddie Laker era.^{[citation needed]}

In August 2006, Zoom Airlines announced that it was to establish a UK subsidiary, probably based at Gatwick Airport, to offer low-cost long-haul flights to the USA and India. The company suspended all its operations from 28 August 2008 due to financial problems related to the high fuel price.

On 26 October 2006, Oasis Hong Kong Airlines started flying from Hong Kong to London Gatwick Airport (delayed by one day because Russia suspended fly-over rights for that flight an hour before the flight's scheduled departure). Tickets for flights between Hong Kong to London can be as low at £75 (approximately US$150) per leg (not including taxes and other charges) for economy class and £470 (approximately US$940) per leg for business class for the same route. From 28th June 2007, a second long-haul service has operated to Vancouver, British Columbia. The company stops its flights from 9 April 2008, after over 1 billions HKD of losses.

Australia's Jetstar has operated International since 2005, when they began service to Christchurch, New Zealand. In late 2006, more international services began. Departing from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, they fly to popular tourist destinations within 10 hours of Australia such as Honolulu International Airport, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and more. With the delivery of new planes, they hope to fly to the continental US and Europe.

In Late 2007, the Philippine Based Low Cost Carrier, Cebu Pacific, announced intentions to launch non-stop Pacific flights from the Philippines to the United States West Coast and other US cities by around mid-2009.^[5]

By March 2009, Air Asia X will start its first low cost long-haul service into Europe to London Stansted in England. The 5 weekly flgihts to Stansted will be used by one leased Airbus A340-600 aircraft which Air Asia X will receive in January 2009, then refurbished to be ready by March.

Typical low-cost carrier business model practices often include:

a single passenger class
a single type of aeroplane (commonly the Airbus A320 or Boeing 737), reducing training and servicing costs
a minimum set of optional equipment on the aeroplane, often excluding conveniences such as ACARS, further reducing costs of acquisition and maintenance
a simple fare scheme, such as charging one-way tickets half that of round-trips (typically fares increase as the plane fills up, which rewards early reservations)
unreserved seating (encouraging passengers to board early and quickly)
flying to cheaper, less congested secondary airports^[1] and flying early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid air traffic delays and take advantage of lower landing fees

a disinclination to handle Special Service passengers, for instance by placing a higher age limit on unaccompanied minors than full service carriers
Aggressive fuel hedging programs

Not every low-cost carrier implements all of the above points. For example, some try to differentiate themselves with allocated seating, while others operate more than one aircraft type, still others will have relatively high operating costs but lower fares.

The price policy of the low cost carriers is usually very dynamic, with discounts and tickets in promotion. Even if the advertised price may be very low, sometimes it does not include charges & taxes.

The concept originated in the United States before spreading to Europe in the early 1990s and subsequently to much of the rest of the world. The term originated within the airline industry referring to airlines with a lower operating cost structure than their competitors. Airbus, based in France
Boeing, based in the United States
Bombardier, based in Canada
Embraer, based in Brazil
Tupolev, based in Russia (scheduled to be merged into the United Aircraft Building Corporation)

Boeing, Airbus, and Tupolev concentrate on wide-body and narrow-body jet airliners, while Bombardier and Embraer concentrate on regional airliners. Large networks of specialized parts suppliers from around the world support these manufacturers, who sometimes provide only the initial design and final assembly in their own plants. The Chinese ACAC consortium will also soon enter the civil transport market with its ACAC ARJ21 regional jet.^[3]

Until the 1970s, most major airlines were flag carriers, sponsored by their governments and heavily protected from competition. Since then, open skies agreements have resulted in increased competition and choice for consumers, coupled with falling prices for airlines. The combination of high fuel prices, low fares, high salaries, and crises such as the September 11, 2001 attacks and the SARS epidemic have driven many older airlines to government-bailouts, bankruptcy or mergers. At the same time, low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and Southwest have flourished.

Due to the operating characteristics of the helicopter—its ability to takeoff and land vertically, and to hover for extended periods of time, as well as the aircraft's handling properties under low airspeed conditions—it has been chosen to conduct tasks that were previously not possible with other aircraft, or were time- or work-intensive to accomplish on the ground. Today, helicopter uses include transportation, construction, firefighting, search and rescue, and military uses.

A helicopter used to carry loads connected to long cables or slings is called an aerial crane. Aerial cranes are used to place heavy equipment, like radio transmission towers and large air conditioning units, on the tops of tall buildings, or when an item must be raised up in a remote area, such as a radio tower raised on the top of a hill or mountain. Helicopters are used as aerial cranes in the logging industry to lift trees out of terrain where vehicles cannot travel and where environmental concerns prohibit the building of roads. These operations are referred to as longline because of the long, single sling line used to carry the load.

Helitack is the use of helicopters to combat wildland fires. The helicopters are used for aerial firefighting (or water bombing) and may be fitted with tanks or carry helibuckets. Helibuckets, such as the Bambi bucket, are usually filled by submerging the bucket into lakes, rivers, reservoirs, or portable tanks. Tanks fitted onto helicopters are filled from a hose while the helicopter is on the ground or water is siphoned from lakes or reservoirs through a hanging snorkel as the helicopter hovers over the water source. Helitack helicopters are also used to deliver firefighters, who rappel down to inaccessible areas, and to resupply firefighters. Common firefighting helicopters include variants of the Bell 205 and the Erickson S-64 Aircrane helitanker.

Helicopters are used as air ambulances for emergency medical assistance in situations when an ambulance cannot easily or quickly reach the scene. Helicopters are also used when a patient needs to be transported between medical facilities and air transportation is the most practical method for the safety of the patient. Air ambulance helicopters are equipped to provide medical treatment to a patient while in flight. The use of helicopters as an air ambulance is often referred to as MEDEVAC, and patients are referred to as being "airlifted", or "medevaced".

Oil companies charter helicopters to move workers and parts quickly to remote drilling sites located out to sea or in remote locations. The speed over boats makes the high operating cost of helicopters cost effective to ensure that oil platforms continue to flow. Companies such as CHC Helicopter, Bristow Helicopters, and Air Logistics specialize in this type of operation.

Police departments and other law enforcement agencies use helicopters to pursue suspects. Since helicopters can achieve a unique aerial view, they are often used in conjunction with police on the ground to report on suspects' locations and movements. They are often mounted with lighting and heat-sensing equipment for night pursuits.

Military forces use attack helicopters to conduct aerial attacks on ground targets. Such helicopters are mounted with missile launchers and miniguns. Transport helicopters are used to ferry troops and supplies where the lack of an airstrip would make transport via fixed-wing aircraft impossible. The use of transport helicopters to deliver troops as an attack force on an objective is referred to as Air Assault. Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) helicopter systems of varying sizes are being developed by companies for military reconnaissance and surveillance duties. Naval forces also use helicopters equipped with dipping sonar for antisubmarine warfare, since they can operate from small ships.

Garmin Mobile XT at Samsung i550w

I’ve been testing the new Garmin Mobile XT application recently and honestly, it’s not too shabby. Garmin’s been in the GPS biz for, well, as long as I can remember, but this is their first attempt at a mobile app. Previously they’ve focused mainly on the dedicated in-car and handheld devices. Garmin Mobile XT will cost you $99 and comes with all necessary maps, as well as access to the Garmin Online features.

The app ships on a 2GB microSD card, with micro-to-mini and micro-to-SD adapters in the package as well. The app is tied directly to this memory card, which can be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. Garmin informs me that there is also a version available on DVD that will allow you to put the app on any memory card (or internal memory, in the case of the N95 8GB or N81 8GB), though this version, for some reason, is $40 more. I’m told it has to do with how the map data is licensed from Navteq. Shipping it on the microSD, however, is good because it makes installation dead easy. Seriously you stick the card in your phone and go. Installation is automatic, and I think alot of folks will find that really appealing.

The main screen of Garmin Mobile XT is very user-friendly, with really few options. The first button, “Where To?” is really self-explanatory, and lets you either navigate Home (I really like having such quick access to navigate home) or enter an address or use the POIs and all that. Below that takes you to the map view, and then Tools, Settings, and Exit. Really simple. In this screen also, the top left corner shows the strength of your GPS signal, which I really like.

When entering addresses, you start with the State, and enter in each part of the address bit by bit. You can search for partial city and street names, which makes things really easy, though there’s no T9 support. For instance, if I’m navigating somewhere in North Richland Hills, well that’s a long city to type out with multitap. However, I can put in just ‘North R’ and Garmin Mobile XT will return a list of cities matching that, from which I can select. This really makes things easy. There is also support for navigating to a contact’s address, but I was unable to actually use this, despite having the address correctly formatted in my address book. The application kept wanting me to manually type in the details.

Private student loans

These are loans that are not guaranteed by a government agency and are made to students by banks or finance companies. Advocates of private student loans suggest that they combine the best elements of the different government loans into one: They generally offer higher loan limits than federal student loans, ensuring the student is not left with a budget gap. But unlike federal parent loans, they generally offer a grace period with no payments due until after graduation (this grace period ranges as high as 12 months after graduation, though most private lenders offer six months). However, some higher education advocates are private loan detractors because of the higher interest rates, multiple fees, and lack of borrower protections private loans carry that are not associated with federal loans^[1]^[2].

Private loans generally come in two types: school-channel and direct-to-consumer.

School-channel loans offer borrowers lower interest rates but generally take longer to process. School-channel loans are 'certified' by the school, which means the school signs off on the borrowing amount, and the funds for school-channel loans are disbursed directly to the school.

Direct-to-consumer private loans are not certified by the school; schools don't interact with a direct-to-consumer private loan at all. The student simply supplies enrollment verification to the lender, and the loan proceeds are disbursed directly to the student. In fact, there is an easy solution to the fee-vs.-rate question: All lenders are legally required to provide you a statement of the "APR (Annual Percentage Rate)" for the loan before you sign a promissory note and commit to it. Unlike the "base" rate, this rate includes any fees charged and can be thought of as the "effective" interest rate including actual interest, fees, etc. When comparing loans, it may be easier to compare APR rather than "rate" to ensure an apples-to-apples comparison. APR is the best yardstick to compare loans that have the same repayment term; however, if the repayment terms are different, APR becomes a less-perfect comparison tool. With different term loans, consumers often look to 'total financing costs' to understand their financing options.

Eligible loan programs generally issue loans based on the credit history of the applicant and any applicable cosigner/co-endorser/coborrower. This is in contrast to federal loan programs that deal primarily with need-based criteria, as defined by the EFC and the FAFSA. For many students, this is a great advantage to private loan programs, as their families may have too much income or too many assets to qualify for federal aid but insufficient assets and income to pay for school without assistance.

Additionally, many international students in the United States can obtain private loans (they are ineligible for federal loans in many cases) with a cosigner who is a United States citizen or permanent resident. However, some graduate programs (notably top MBA programs) have a tie-up with private loan providers and in those cases no co-signor is needed even for international students.

The terms for private loans vary from lender to lender. A common suggestion is to shop around on ALL terms, not just respond to "rates as low as..." tactics that are sometimes little more than bait-and-switch. However, shopping around could damage your credit score^[4]. Examples of other borrower terms and benefits that vary by lender are deferments (amount of time after leaving school before payments start) and forebearences (a period when payments are temporarily stopped due to financial or other hardship). These policies are solely based on the contract between lender and borrower and not set by Department of Education policies.

Federally subsidized consolidations are not available for private student loans, though several lenders offer private consolidation programs. Borrowers of privately subsidized student loans may face the same restrictions to bankruptcy discharge as for government based loans: New legislation makes clear that these loans are, like federal student loans, not dischargeable under bankruptcy. Even before the legislation was passed, however, private student loans that were guaranteed 'in whole or in part' by a nonprofit entity are non-dischargeable in bankruptcy (and most private loans, regardless of the lender, were indeed guaranteed by a nonprofit).

Consolidation loans have longer terms than other loans. Debtors can choose terms of 10–30 years. Although the monthly repayments are lower, the total amount paid over the term of the loan is higher than would be paid with other loans. Both subsidized and unsubsidized loans are guaranteed by the U.S. Department of Education either directly or through guaranty agencies. Both types offer a grace period of six months, which means that no payments are due until six months after graduation or after the borrower becomes a less-than-half-time student without graduating. Both types have a fairly modest annual limit. The dependent undergraduate limit effective for loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2008 is as follows (combined subsidized and unsubsidized limits): $5,500 per year for freshman undergraduate students, $6,500 for sophomore undergraduates, and $7,500 per year for junior and senior undergraduate students, as well as students enrolled in teacher certification or preparatory coursework for graduate programs. For independent undergraduates, the limits (combined subsidized and unsubsidized) effective for loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2008 are higher: $9,500 per year for freshman undergraduate students, $10,500 for sophomore undergraduates, and $12,500 per year for junior and senior undergraduate students, as well as students enrolled in teacher certification or preparatory coursework for graduate programs. Subsidized federal student loans are only offered to students with a demonstrated financial need. Financial need may vary from school to school. For these loans, the federal government makes interest payments while the student is in college. For example, those who borrow $10,000 during college will owe $10,000 upon graduation.

Unsubsidized federal student loans are also guaranteed by the U.S. Government, but the government does not pay interest for the student, rather the interest accrues during college. Nearly all student are eligible for these loans regardless of demonstrated need. Those who borrow $10,000 during college will owe $10,000 plus interest upon graduation. For example, those who have borrowed $10,000 and had $2,000 accrue in interest will owe $12,000. Interest will begin accruing on the $12,000. The accrued interest will be "capitalized" into the loan amount, and the borrower will begin making payments on the accumulated total. Students can choose to pay the interest while still in college; however, few students choose to exercise this option.

DD-WRT is a third party developed firmware released under the terms of the GPL for many ieee802.11a/b/g/h/n wireless routers based on a Broadcom or Atheros chip reference design. For a list of supported devices, please see the Supported Devices page.

The firmware is maintained by BrainSlayer and is hosted at dd-wrt.com. The first versions of DD-WRT were based on the Alchemy Firmware from Sveasoft Inc, which is in turn based on the original GPL'd Linksys firmware and a number of other open source projects. DD-WRT was created directly from Sveasoft's software decision to start charging for their firmware, closing the door to opensource.

At present DD-WRT is available for free although a different business model is being drafted by BrainSlayer in order to pay his salary, as this is his full time job.

The new version of DD-WRT (v24) is a completely new project. DD-WRT offers many advanced features not found in the OEM firmwares of these devices, or even the firmware available for purchase from Sveasoft. It is also free of the product activation or tracking found in the Sveasoft firmware.

Note: Beta firmware, by its very nature, will contain bugs. It is not recommended to install beta firmware on large networks that are used for businesses, etc. However, there is now a bugtracker in place for DD-WRT firmware located here: DD-WRT Bugtracker.

Among other features not found in the original Linksys firmware, DD-WRT adds the Kai Daemon for the Kai Console Gaming network, WDS wireless bridging/repeating protocol, Radius Authentication for more secure wireless communication, advanced Quality of Service controls for bandwidth allocation, and software support for the SD-Card hardware modification.

DD-WRT is free Linux-based firmware for several wireless routers, most notably the Linksys WRT54G (including the WRT54GL and WRT54GS). It is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2.

Many of DD-WRT's features are not included in typical router firmware. These features include support for the Kai network, daemon-based services, IPv6, Wireless Distribution System, RADIUS, advanced quality of service, radio output power control, overclocking capability, and software support for a Secure Digital Card hardware modification.

DD-WRT versions up to v22 were based on the Alchemy firmware from Sveasoft, which in turn is based on the original Linksys firmware. DD-WRT versions from v23 onwards, however, are almost completely rewritten. The Linux kernel part is based on the OpenWrt kernel, which started as a Linksys-based firmware but later changed to its own build framework. All of the firmwares are based on Linux, as are OpenWrt and Alchemy.

Through a partnership with Buffalo Technology, Buffalo will begin shipping routers pre-installed with a customized version of DD-WRT.

The major releases to date include:

DD-WRT v23 Service Pack 1 (SP1) was released on May 16, 2006. Much of the code was overhauled and rewritten during the development of this release, and many new features were added.

DD-WRT v23 Service Pack 2 (SP2) was released on September 14, 2006. The interface was overhauled, and some new features were added. Some additional router models are supported, with more planned.

DD-WRT v24 was released on May 18, 2008. It allows up to 16 virtual interfaces with different SSIDs and encryption protocols. There is support for some PowerPC, IXP425-based router boards, Atheros WiSOC and X86 based systems. There is also limited support for routers with low flash memory (ex. WRT54Gv8 or WRT54GSv7).

DD-WRT v24 Service Pack 1 (SP1) was released on July 26, 2008. Urgent DNS security issue fixed for DNSMasq, Site Survey security fixes, longer passwords, and flexible OpenVPN configurations. Controversy

In July 2006, the DD-WRT Shop started offering a commercial version of the router firmware built with additional, non-open source code.^[3] It includes increased functionality such as per-user bandwidth control. Because the GPL license has a provision against binary-only public distribution of derivative works, this would appear to be a license violation, as pointed out by one contributor to the project.^[4]Also around that time, the license text was changed to specify that some software components were not licensed under the GPL. The web interface, one of the non-GPL components, was encrypted to prevent its reverse engineering and rebranding.

The person who released the commercial version wrote a response to these allegations in his blog and stated that the source code was in fact available.^[5] The license text was reverted back to the unmodified GPL license.

A helicopter is an aircraft that is lifted and propelled by one or more horizontal rotors, each rotor consisting of two or more rotor blades. Helicopters are classified as rotorcraft or rotary-wing aircraft to distinguish them from fixed-wing aircraft because the helicopter derives its source of lift from the rotor blades rotating around a mast. The word 'helicopter' is adapted from the French hélicoptère, coined by Gustave de Ponton d'Amecourt in 1861. It is linked to the Greek words helix/helik- (ἕλικ-) = "spiral" or "turning" and pteron (πτερόν) = "wing".^[1]^[2]

As an aircraft, the primary advantages of the helicopter are due to the rotor blades that revolve through the air, providing lift without requiring the aircraft to move forward. This creates the ability for the helicopter to take off and land vertically without the need for runways. For this reason, helicopters are often used in congested or isolated areas where fixed-wing aircraft are not able to take off or land. The lift from the rotor also allows the helicopter to hover in one area and to do so more efficiently than other forms of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft, allowing it to accomplish tasks that fixed-wing aircraft are unable to perform.

History

Since 400 AD, Chinese children have played with bamboo flying tops. This toy made its way to Europe and is depicted in a 1463 European painting.^[5] Pao Phu Tau (抱朴子) was a 4th-century book in China reported to describe some of the ideas inherent to rotary wing aircraft:^[6]

In the 1880s, Thomas Edison experimented with small helicopter models in the USA. First he used a guncotton-powered engine, but it caused damage by explosions, and tests were ended. Next he used an electric motor. His tests showed that a large rotor with low blade area was needed.

The candy bar form factor taken as a base for the device’s design might seem unusual as compared to the plethora of various sliders available on the market; this little comeback to a classic solution looks fresh and intriguing, seems like Samsung are looking for an extra audience comprised of people who can’t stand the slider form factor, and actually such customers make up a considerable number, looking for modern solutions that keep to the classics. The phone can’t be called a typical Samsung product judging by its looks only, it stands out from the rest of Samsung devices and that’s another advantage, making it more noticeable and originally looking. Some people argue that its design might be mimicking some of the Nokia and SonyEricsson devices up to the point where it invokes no straight associations with any particular brand in the minds of brand loyal customers and at the same time is equally appealing to the fans of Samsung, SE and Nokia as well - largely due to the intriguing, delusive design of the keypad and casing. The development and production of S60-based smartphones by the Samsung company has a long and rich history, the precursor of the now abundant S60 family being Samsung D700, a folder with rotating screen - ironically, it didn’t make it to the market due to a number of reasons and its commercial production was cancelled yet it remained a key product that served as a base for a few other smartphones like D720 and D730 which managed to enter the market, though too late to win good sales - so they were soon phased out. On the day of release the two devices’ specifications look rather appealing, but the delay in development completely negated their strong points in the competition with the rival products, so when the two entered the market they looked no more than just a couple of wallflowers posing little interest to the potential buyer. It’s not solely the prolonged development time that contributed to the low popularity of those, but the lack of reputation with the Samsung company as a smartphone manufacturer - in fact, there was little reputation at all since they were largely unknown in that sense. The tried and true Nokia smartphones were still largely preferred as a better choice since that company had been long known for their variety of highly functional smart solutions. Any comparisons between those and the ones offered by Samsung weren’t to Samsung’s advantage, and the current state of things isn’t much different.

Samsung’s positions on the front of WM-based PDA phones look more challenging, however a number of persistent flaws among these products is to stay as ell. The solutions issued by the company in this market sector look quite competitive and balanced, comfortable and technologically advanced as well; The i600 and i710 models can be good samples of this, appearing rather successful phones yet sporting little demand on the actual market. The Samsung i550 is the first GPS-enabled device from the Korean giant and it’s a great start. The quad band HSDPA/UMTS/EDGE S60 device features a 3.2-megapixel camera (AF w/ image & video editor), 150MB of internal memory, charging via microUSB, 2.6-inch screen, 128MB of RAM, dedicated hot keys, and a trackball ala Sidekick/BlackBerry. Something is going on with Google on this one, but everyone at Samsung is tight-lipped.

The smartphone market, as the most dynamic and rapidly expanding one, poses a great deal of interest to all of the manufacturer companies, and Samsung’s activities in this sphere have been on a peak during the recent months. As it was already mentioned, the critical factor crippling Samsung’s smartphone strategy is the delay in development ending up with new models having morally aged prior to their release dates. Even nowadays this process can be observed in a number of occasions. The quad band HSDPA/UMTS/EDGE S60 device features a 3.2-megapixel camera (AF w/ image & video editor), 150MB of internal memory, charging via microUSB, 2.6-inch screen, 128MB of RAM, dedicated hot keys, and a trackball ala Sidekick/BlackBerry. How to install Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard on HP 520 ?

1. Set Your BIOS

The most difficult part of getting this installation to work with my board was getting the right BIOS settings in place. In the course of figuring it out, I made a lot of different small tweaks, so to ensure I didn't miss any, I've taken pictures of every relevant BIOS screen. If you're using the same board as me (an Asus P5W DH Deluxe), just go through screen by screen and make sure that your BIOS settings match mine. If you're using a different board, these settings could still serve as a good guide, but they may not perfectly match up to yours. (I'm having a tough time remembering every BIOS setting I tweaked, so if you're using a P5W DH Deluxe, your BIOS settings match mine, but you're having trouble, let me know and I'll try updating the gallery with more BIOS screens.)

Now that you're BIOS are set, it's time to install.

2. Install OS X with the Kalyway Install Disc

Floating around the BitTorrents, you'll find a disc image called something like Kalyway Leopard 10.5.1 SSE2 SSE3. Download it and burn it to a DVD—it's what you'll use to install Leopard. If you're going to pursue this I'd still recommend purchasing an actual copy of Leopard, but you won't need it here.

Basically this DVD contains the Leopard install disc along with the EFI software that lets your hardware work with OS X using the vanilla kernels—which is a big part of why you don't have to do any of the command line hacking this time around. You just install the disc and voilà—everything boots up and upgrades normally (or at least that's been my experience so far). So assuming you've built your computer using the original instructions, you've got the Kalyway disc, and you've already prepared your BIOS, you're ready to install.

First, boot with the disc. The disc boot up can take a few minutes, so you'll need to be patient.

Before you go ahead with the installation you need to format your hard drive, so once the disc boots, go to Utilities -> Disk Utility in the menu bar. Find the hard drive in the sidebar you want to install Leopard to, select it, then go to the Partition tab, and select a 1 partition volume scheme, name it whatever you want (I called mine Leopard), and choose the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. Now click the Options button to set the partition scheme. You can choose the partition scheme as either Master Boot Record or GUID (in my previous instructions you needed to set it as MBR). I used GUID.

Click Apply, let it complete the partitioning, and then quit Disk Utility and head back to the Installer. Hit Continue at the Welcome screen, agree to the terms, and then be sure to hit the Customize button before proceeding with your installation. Here's where the point-and-click magic of this installer comes in.

This install package comes with individual settings that match specific motherboards, and one very well supported board is the P5W DH Deluxe I used in the original build. Rather than telling you which checkboxes to tick, just click the screenshot above for a look at all the settings you'll want to use if you're installing OS X on that board.

When you're all set, click Done and then go ahead and Install. When the installation is complete (it'll take a little while), let your computer restart, pop out the install disc, and sit back in wonder as Leopard runs on your PC in full 10.5.1 glory.
